Birch House Cottage - At A Glance

Thank you for looking at Birch House Holiday Cottage, situated just two miles from Lake Windermere and within the spectacular Lake District National Park - a world famous UNESCO World Heritage Site and area of outstanding natural beauty.

We have tried to find the right blend of traditional features combined with modern amenities to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. A welcome pack containing a selection of tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits will be waiting for you on your arrival. An information pack, which will help you to find out more about the cottage and equipment, as well as the surrounding area will be sent to you by email a week before your holiday.

Downstairs, the cottage is cozy and open plan with a combined living area and kitchen separated by our beautiful granite top breakfast bar and exposed beams that are in keeping with the traditional Lake District cottage that it is.

The living area and kitchen are traditionally decorated with tasteful, natural colours and fixtures and fittings that perfectly complement our lovely, cozy 200 year old cottage.

The log burner is a welcoming, romantic and cozy centrepiece to the cottage. Don't worry, we do have electric central heating as well, but there is no better way to relax after a long day exploring the local villages or walking the fells than lighting a real wood fire and maybe settling down with a nice glass of wine. We provide an initial supply of kindling and wood for the fire to get you started, and more can be purchased at pretty much any general store, including the well stocked garage shop which is over one mile away at Newby Bridge.

We also have a number of books, many with a Lake District theme, including a full set of "Wainwright's" guides, and other walking guides for people of all fitness levels and abilities including a number specifically for people with dogs which are also ideal for people looking for slightly easier routes. If you are a first-time visitor these may help you to plan your days, or if you are a frequent visitor then it may give you a few ideas for something new to see and do!

If you just want to kick back and relax, we have a smart TV and broadband WiFi, so, as well as live TV, you can watch catch up TV, such as the BBC iPlayer, or sign into your Amazon or Netflix account while you put your feet up and chill. There’s also a Google speaker if you would rather just relax and unwind to some music.

The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you will need for your stay whether you intend to take a quick breakfast and packed lunch to go, or if you plan on cooking full blown meals during your stay at the cottage (no dishwasher or washing machine).

Upstairs, we have a beautiful, modern bedroom, tastefully decorated in shades of silver and grey with a super comfortable king size bed with memory foam mattress and luxury pillows, a fitted wardrobe, bed side drawers and a chest of drawers / dresser. There is also an iron, ironing board and hairdryer.

The bathroom is fully tiled with a heated towel rail, illuminated mirror and electric shower over the bath.

The property has a series of interlinked smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms, two fire extinguishers, a fire blanket, torches and emergency lighting in the event of a power cut along with a small first aid kit. 

Maximum occupancy is 2 adults and 2 dogs. Over occupancy is not allowed under any circumstances and we cannot accept bookings which include children, toddlers or babies for insurance and safety reasons.
